As I sit to write this latest blog, I am a bit overwhelmed. To be honest, there has been so much going on, I’m no sure where to start. There are so many things to share and update you all on. Please know that within the past few weeks, your donations were shipped to Haiti. We had a team in Haiti last week distributing the donations. Last Saturday, just after our team returned home, except for our Foundation’s president, an earthquake hit Northern Haiti. This allowed our Foundation’s board members in Haiti to organize supplies and mobilize a team. The past two days the team has done medical clinics and given out food and water to those most affected by the earthquake. However, there has been one story that has resonated in my mind this last week, so I believe I will start there.
When the unexpected becomes the unbelievable, we praise. As Christians, so many times we pray for God to do the unimaginable. We quote Ephesians and stand on His promise that He is able to do exceedingly above what we could ask or think. And I think sometimes, we sit back and we wait, but don’t often recognize how God achieves this. Not this time, folks. With our own eyes and our own hearts, we testify that God has taken the unexpected and turned it into a beautiful, unbelievable story. Let me share with you about my friends Laura and Jeff.
In 2010, Laura and her husband Tony, went to Haiti on a mission trip. During that trip, they visited an orphanage/school. They met a boy named Jeff. Jeff became special to Laura and Tony, and they have continued their relationship with him since then. They were able to sponsor Jeff all the way through high school and even college. He will be graduating with a finance degree next year! Last week, EIGHT years later, Laura was part of the team that was in Haiti doing the distribution of donated supplies. Jeff met up with the team early on in the trip and decided to come back every day after that. He served alongside of the team all week and became a significant part of the work Foundation Haiti Project is doing in Haiti. Even now, as I type, he is in Northern Haiti with other members from FHP helping meet the needs of those affected by the earthquake last Saturday. I can’t imagine that eight years ago, when Tony and Laura met a young boy named Jeff, did they ever expect to be serving alongside of him in ministry and watching him become an important part of the foundation that they are invested in in Haiti. I don’t believe they saw him as a finance student ready to graduate from university. But they did SEE HIM. They saw him as a young boy loved by God; a young boy worthy of time and attention and investment. Did they expect this outcome eight years later? Perhaps yes. Perhaps no. But God did. He’s in the business of taking things that we least expect and making them unbelievable. The result is that we, as believers praise Him, and He as our Abba Father, gets His glory.
Who is your Jeff? What is your unexpected moment that will turn into a unbelievable story, a story that will bring glory to God?
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
